One Year of Kreative Freedom!

This week I’m celebrating my first year of Kreative Freedom – and it’s truly become just that!

This time last year I’d just taken my first steps away from agency life and jumped into the unknown of freelancing. Today, I’m writing this post while sitting on a beautiful coastline, somewhere in Cornwall. Having completed a lovely little climb this morning, I’m now spending the rest of the day finishing a brochure design and sorting some social campaign amends. This is exactly the kind of flexibility I was hoping for when I decided to leap into the world of freelancing last year, and I’m so proud that I’ve managed to make it happen!

As is often the story when starting a new business, the first few months brought about a few trials and tribulations. But I’m incredibly fortunate to have an amazing support network around me, who showed confidence in me at the times when mine hit rock bottom. I will be forever thankful for the support during those early months, as it was what gave me the strength to grow the business to where it is now.

This year has really proved to me that you really can work from ANYWHERE. I’ve replied to emails on a belay ledge half way up a cliff face, taken video calls from random libraries in Norway, and designed new brand identities from the passenger seat on long car journeys.

I’m very transparent with my clients about how I work, and so far they’ve had nothing but good things to say about it. My weird and wonderful work schedule is flexible both ways – Yes I might be busy for a few hours on that particular Thursday afternoon, but I’ll also work all evening to make sure I meet your last minute deadline.

My constant exploring, seeing new places and doing new things, is also reducing the dreaded creative block that designers often suffer with! Ideas are coming to me more naturally, and despite the unusual work setup, I really feel I’m working more efficiently.

The one thing I have slacked on this year is sharing updates. It’s been very busy, I’ve had some amazing opportunities and worked on some great projects, but I haven’t slowed down enough to share a lot of it! So I’ll try my best over the next few months to share some more of the exciting things I’ve been up to.

I am absolutely loving being in control of my own work-life balance and I wouldn’t change it for the world. A huge thank you to everybody who’s supported me in this first year. Here’s to the next year of Kreative Freedom, alongside plenty more adventures!
